Aside from family, having goals is another motivation for us to wake up and face a new day. Whether these are geared towards personal development or maintaining our family's well-being, we should be able to take conscious steps towards achieving the goals that we have set for ourselves. Being intentional in the pursuit of these goals is key to success. Unfortunately, many of us struggle to make our dreams a reality. We find it difficult to know where to begin and how to take concrete steps towards achieving our ideals and goals.

Holding ourselves accountable is important as this requires us to focus our mind, take care of our body, and nurture the relationships that we've made to help us get one step closer towards our goals. If you find yourself at a crossroads, here are some steps that you can take to stick to the path that you've chosen, and move forward:

  1. Start small. An act as simple as making your bed can be the spark that you need to implement positive change in your way of life. Often, lofty goals can be broken down to small milestones that would make it much less intimidating and all the more doable. This way, starting small will result in a big pay-off.
  2. Surround yourself with like-minded people. While you should be mainly responsible for your progress, it would help to have your family and a community of people who aspire to have the same quality of life that you are working towards. Surrounding yourself with individuals who have the same passion would not only push you to do your best, but can also provide you with appropriate advice and help whenever you may need them.
  3. Show up. Laying out plans that would lead you to where you want to go is great, but it's just half the battle. Follow through is vital in emptying your bucket list. Be present in activities that you have organized, and strictly follow routines that you have established. Put in the work and you will be rewarded.
  4. Sit back and relax when necessary. It's good to be hungry for success, but all work and no play can lead to burnout. Don't exhaust yourself before you come close to the finish line. Schedule restful intervals that will allow you to recharge and come back with a clear head and energetic body that will allow you to continue running your own race.

Success tastes best when you know that you've done all you can to achieve it. In your journey towards the realization of your dreams, there is no need to start with a bang. Take the slow but sure route. Get strength and support from family and friends who share the same interests and goals. Be present and put in the work, but know when to slow down for a great comeback. Success doesn't come overnight; be patient with yourself and don't forget to celebrate even the smallest milestones.
